The result was the hit song "4 Minutes," which became one of both stars' biggest hits. The track is a riff-heavy earworm with Timbaland's trademark beats and tics anchoring the strong pairing of two of music's biggest stars. The video, directed by Jonas Euvremer and François Rousselet, features one of Madonna's most conceptual dancing performances, and Timberlake's co-credit on the album marked a first on a Madonna record.

Released as a single on March 17, 2008, "4 Minutes" had a singular mission in mind: to become an enormous hit. And it certainly succeeded, topping charts in the UK, Europe, and the US dance charts. Madonna acknowledged the complex themes at play, suggesting that the song is about having a sense of urgency, about how we are living on borrowed time, and how people are becoming much more aware of the environment and how we're destroying the planet. In the end, Madonna proved that time had not yet run out for her, delivering a commanding presence in her live performances of the song. Instead, he looped the YouTube rip and created an entire song around it, spending the next two days writing and recording the track. When he was almost finished with the song, he decided to contact Timbaland to get the original file, but the producer regretfully informed him that he didn't save that particular beat. As a result, J. Cole had to recreate the beat.

Mikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13779546879068214828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1663587459147453551.post-27251264620629987742023-03-19T15:47:00.004+01:002023-03-19T15:49:38.814+01:00Missy Elliott and Timbaland Reunite in the Studio for New Music
Missy and Timbaland formed one of the most dynamic genre-bending duos in Hip Hop at the turn of the century, with each album they released providing an attempt to push the boundaries of rap. One of the most popular virtual events that emerged during this time was Verzuz, the brainchild of music producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland. The platform allowed musicians to showcase their talents and compete against each other, while fans were able to tune in from the safety of their homes. However, Verzuz had to take a hiatus due to a legal matter and the changing landscape of the entertainment industry.

In a recent interview with REVOLT, Swizz Beatz confirmed that Verzuz will be making a comeback with some adjustments. He explained that they have been changing the infrastructure to accommodate the evolution of the platform. Verzuz initially started in a garage and moved to a more significant platform, but now they are changing the whole way they operate. However, Swizz reassured fans that these changes will not make it feel like a completely different experience.

Swizz also revealed that when Verzuz does return, fans can expect a fantastic lineup with artists they have been waiting to see, as well as some unexpected battles. This news has generated excitement among music enthusiasts who have been eagerly anticipating the return of the popular virtual event.

Verzuz was launched in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and was an instant hit. The platform showcased some iconic battles such as T-Pain and Lil' Jon, Ludacris, Nelly, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. These events drew in massive audiences and provided a much-needed distraction for people stuck at home during the pandemic. The success of Verzuz led to a partnership with Triller, which promised bigger and live performances as the pandemic restrictions eased up.

However, this partnership was not without its challenges. In August 2021, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland filed a lawsuit against Triller, alleging that the company had failed to make some payments. This resulted in a temporary halt to Verzuz events.

Fortunately, Swizz and Timbaland have reached a settlement with Triller, and the platform is set to make a triumphant return. Music fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Verzuz events, with many wondering which artists will be featured in the lineup. It is clear that Verzuz has become an integral part of the music industry, especially during these challenging times. Its return will be a welcome sight for many and a sign that the entertainment industry is gradually returning to normalcy.

Mikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13779546879068214828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1663587459147453551.post-37054327167134269602023-02-18T23:24:00.000+01:002023-02-18T23:24:52.101+01:00Introducing Timbaland Passion Instagram Account
As music lovers, we all have that one producer whose work we admire, and for many of us, that producer is Timbaland. According to Timbaland, a Kanye performance at the Super Bowl could be as iconic as Motown 25, a televised celebration of Motown Records' 25th Anniversary that featured legendary artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. Timbaland suggested that the public may not be prepared for the level of spectacle that Kanye would bring.

While some commenters agreed that Kanye would put on an amazing show, others expressed concerns about his controversial behavior and the potential safety risks of having him perform live for the whole country to see. Although Rihanna performed several songs that feature Kanye, such as "Run This Town" and "Diamonds," some fans compared her stage designs and outfits to Kanye's style. The 52-year-old is set to have a full docket of cases that both engage and excite viewers from coast to coast. In addition to laying down the law in the courtroom, he’s slowly becoming America’s favorite family man with his E! series “Mathis Family Matters,” which shows him and his loved ones navigating fun, everyday life situations in Los Angeles.

In this exclusive conversation with REVOLT, Judge Mathis breaks down the lawsuit between Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Triller; talks his daytime talk show entering its 24th season; and gives advice to the youth amid PnB Rock’s passing. Read up!

You’re back in the courtroom for the 24th season of “Judge Mathis.” How has the show helped you grow as a justice and on-air personality?
I think the show helped me in the sense that I’m able to vicariously experience the reality that working and poor people engage and have to live the circumstances and the reality in which they have to live…because I grew up in that reality among working and poor folks, which I’m not saying to say those are the majority of our litigants. That’s why many of them don’t come to court because poverty breeds, and there’s a lot that goes into that. So that’s the growth — me being able to stay in touch with the realities that I want to continue to understand and to give wisdom and fight to instill better realities for our communities.

*revolt.tv

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland sued Triller for $28 million. After buying Verzuz from them, Triller failed to make payments and defaulted on the agreement, but was able to reach a settlement with Swizz and Timbaland in September. Any legal advice you would have shared with the producers?
No, I think because they pursued it precisely as they should have. Still, I’m proud that these brothers and all the others from the hip hop community, including our brother who I love — but I keep him in check on my posts — but I love the strength Kanye West showed as well. As for Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, I’m proud of these brothers for not being slaves. Prince wore “slave” on his forehead because the corporate entertainment industry was unfair, he believed, and it proved to be because they capitulated — and in this case, that happens all the time.

Corporations think that guys from the street or uneducated people are somehow unsophisticated about their business when it’s the opposite. If they ran these companies they negotiated with, they would get more money. If they were to rent Triller, they would make more money without them. So because of their street wisdom, which gives them the survival in the business acclamation that JAY-Z, Kanye West and Puffy have shown to have, these brothers are showing the same. I think they’re doing precisely what they should be doing.

Would it have been more challenging for Swizz and Timbaland to just buy back their creation in the midst of the lawsuit?
Yes, it would’ve been because you have to finance that operation and that’s a risk. You’re in the risk business then, which is why you hear that only Tyler Perry and a few others own their content because they gotta put up money and risk it. Eighty percent of all entertainment projects from music, television, and film fail.

I remember when I first got to the industry…my buddy who’s been in the industry in music for many, many years, I asked him, “Oh, why don’t you make your own?” ‘Cause he had a studio and everything. I asked, “Why don’t you publish your own, etc.,” to which he said he’d instead go to [learn] the movie business we’re talking about. He said, “I’ll make the same money if I go to Vegas right now, and I’ll make it quicker or I’ll lose it quicker, so I’ll save time going to Vegas because the 80 percent odds…all are going to fail. I wouldn’t get in the risk business like that — I would just do partnerships like the other rap heavyweights have done.”

In the midst of the legal battle, could Triller have still hosted Verzuz episodes without Timbaland and Swizz’s consent since they bought the entity?
Absolutely not because they breached their contract…the hope is that the lawyer gets a cease and desist because you’ve breached the contract, and everything should stop until it’s resolved in court.

Looking at the overview of the case, do you think Swizz and Timbaland should’ve collected in whole or do you feel it’s best to collect in installments?
It truly depends on the tax treatment, to be quite frank. I think it should be based on that and who knows what that would be. You can get it all at one time with you paying 40-50 percent at once at that income level, or you get it sporadically, then you pay 30 percent on $500,000 each year instead…if the deal was $20 million, you pay $10 million all at one time.

What should Swizz and Timbaland look for – red flags and/or positive signs – in their next joint business deal, so they don’t land in that kind of legal situation again?
I would suggest for them to structure the deal differently. It would have to take some innovative thinking, however, I would say that they should continue a partnership and find a better partner and they’re out there. You don’t hear much of this from JAY-Z’s empire or Puffy’s empire as they have partnerships. Even Russell Simmons and Magic Johnson have partnerships. Johnson’s partnerships work better than anyone. Partnerships with major corporations are good because you’re not risking your own money. Secondly, I don’t do a contract [with] anybody that has less money than me (laughs).

If you were to sell the Judge Mathis brand, what approach would you take?
If I was selling my daytime talk show, I would make sure to get paid at the same time as the corporation. I would do a partnership with a major corporation like Warner Brothers ’cause they own it, and so it would have to be a joint deal. Warner Bros. would have to agree to allow me to be a part of the deal and I will make sure I’m getting paid every check. Whenever they get a check, I’m getting one and if they don’t get a check, I don’t get one (laughs).

When it comes to celebrities conducting business with global brands and entities, what’s the best piece of advice you can share?
Don’t count on back-end percentages because even though you might get payments stretched out, don’t let your contract price be based on some [perceived] percentage of profit at the end of each year. The accounting games that corporate America practices — particularly in the entertainment industry — you can get 5-10 percent, or if you want 20 percent, fine, and then you won’t see your profit if things go awry. I advise that when big corporations and brands say they are gonna give you a banking percentage, make sure they give it to you upfront as an advance against those profits whenever they come. If they say they are gonna make $10 million profit on your back-end, right, “Oh OK, well, just give me $5-7 million then since you’re certain we’re gonna make it on there as a profit.”

Andre Mathis will be the second Black Tennessean to serve on the Circuit Court and the first Black man from the states to be appointed. Do you feel the legal system is becoming more inclusive?
They’re trying, but it’s always a question of whether it’s sincere or it’s paternalism or fear. I don’t know [if we can] trust the government and elected officials in particular, so I can’t say that they are committed to moving forward. They’re committed to getting our vote and telling us we’re gonna have the Voting Rights Act passed and how they’re gonna have a George Floyd Policing Act passed in the U.S. Senate to get our vote, and then it never happens. I’m not so committed – I feel it’s based on what the liberal elite think we should have…that’s called paternalism.

Our issues are quite frankly in climate change as we don’t think we’re gonna be around long enough. Our issue is overcoming poverty, quality education, safe and clean neighborhoods, inclusivity and diversity in corporate America, economic justice – those are our issues so when you use our vote to advance issues that don’t have a significant effect on our community or aren’t the priorities in our community…they will try to say we need greenhouses. Do you think the Black people in the inner city living in poverty cares anything about that? That’s where detachment comes in because they either don’t know or are not committed or don’t care enough about our reality to address it [even though] we are the strongest partner that the Democratic Party has.

Unfortunately, we lost Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock to gun violence on Sept. 12. Any advice you would like to share with the youth to prevent these violent acts from reoccurring?
My advice is to stop being suckers. We all claim to be so tough and macho, yet we fall for the trap that has either been set or has occurred as a result of economic deprivation and denial of equal education. In addition to what I mentioned, when you add the dumping of guns or drugs, it’s a trap, and if you go for it, then you’re a sucker – you’re not a wise street guy at all. You even have some suckers right now supporting someone here in LA for mayor who has never been supportive of their community — yet a woman who has spent 100 percent of her adult life and is an experienced congressperson, the street guys are supporting the new guy who is a developer that has never developed affordable housing for their parents or for them.

Here comes this Black woman who is the foundation of our community, and you pass her up because you get the “Law and Order” commercial that used to scare back then, which caused mass incarceration. I want to know if people understand the murder rate with gunfire assault went up 20 percent as gun ownership went up 20 percent. The number of guns on the street has a counter-effect on the number of shootings and killings. Some of the root causes come from our brothers not being aware that they are being pawns to a system that demonizes them already, and you’re given an additional weapon from those who want to demonize you. Part of the police shootings, in my opinion, come from the demonization of the Black man because [the belief is] the “Black man should be feared.”

Mikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13779546879068214828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1663587459147453551.post-76962030865758225532023-02-11T17:33:00.005+01:002023-02-11T17:33:19.919+01:00Timbaland In The Studio With Agnez Mo (2022) (Video)

Its introduction raised concerns about augmented reality and the direction the music industry is headed in, but legendary producer Timbaland suggests the robo-rapper’s downfall had nothing to do with the technology being used. In fact, the super-producer and entrepreneur tells Complex that FN Meka’s “execution was correct.”

“We can’t front on that,” he adds, “because it got people imagining and rethinking. And then it led to a conversation. So I felt like it broke a barrier to let people know what’s coming.”
Aside from Timbaland’s decorated career in the music industry, the producer has been active in the metaverse from the beginning. In 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, Timbaland created Verzuz, a virtual artist battle in collaboration with fellow producer Swizz Beatz. Verzuz quickly became a favorite pastime for fans while on lockdown, with many of its shows attracting more than 1 billion viewers. As Verzuz continued to grow (it was acquired by TrillerNet in November 2021), Timbaland founded Beatclub, a beat-selling marketplace that allows fans to browse and buy shares of their favorite songs. In return, they receive dividends or royalties of the music or get the opportunity to purchase NFTs. Then in August 2021, he launched Ape-In Productions, a web3 record label, talent agency and entertainment company, in partnership with the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

The legendary super-producer says Capitol Records’ former signee missed the mark not because of the AR technology, but because of its cultural appropriation. “It is an example of what we talk about as culture vultures,” Timbaland explains. “Kyle [The Hooligan] was supposed to be the frontman of that whole ship. We would’ve looked at it in a whole different way,” he says of the independent Black artist and creator. “If people want to do these types of things, then they need to invest in the culture instead of trying to manipulate the culture.” That’s why the Grammy Award-winning super-producer is further investing in the metaverse and AR space with Congo, his non-fungible token (NFT) rapping alter ego.

Congo is a rapping ape that was introduced on social media in late July as the brainchild of Timbaland, his partner, Zayd Portillo, and their web3 company Light Energy Labs. The swaggy ape was originally dubbed Bored Ape #590—a creation of popular NFT company Bored Ape Yacht Club—before Timbaland christened him with a new name and personality. Timbaland says he’s always loved apes, but the idea of voicing a character in another reality came from his love of popular children’s series The Adventures of Fat Albert. “Fat Albert was all about music. I think that’s why I related to it because he gave you the storyline and he gave you music,” he recalled of the beloved character. “He gave you a good time. Bill Cosby was really behind the scenes, but it was all about Fat Albert.”

Unsurprisingly, Timbaland brings a robust narrative and passion for music to Congo’s identity. On July 30, they premiered Congo’s first video and single, “Has A Meaning,” as an introduction into his world. The track is a mid tempo, fun record that has Timbaland’s futuristic production style all over it. The producer says creating the song was basically a cake walk. “There’s not a hit I haven’t done, but have I made a hit in the decentralized space? I’m trying to touch eras that people ain’t never touched,” he says. “There’s nothing for me when it comes to making a hit. I’m trying to make classic memories that stay around and stay around forever.”

Producing the music video, on the other hand, was a far more difficult task to complete. The three-minute CGI video captures Congo in a city similar to New York’s Times Square, rapping atop a skyscraper in the middle of a busy street. Timbaland, who voices the character, also directed Congo’s movement. In behind the scenes footage, Timbaland performed every inch of Congo’s actions in front of a green screen. Those movements then transferred Congo to the screen using AI technology Unreal Engine.

Portillo, who directed the video, recalls how much effort went into creating the visuals: “That day was crazy. [There were] so many things that could have stopped it,” he says. Portillo recalled the tight production schedule the team was working on. They had originally allotted several months to complete the video, but the plan changed drastically. “The Congo model came together in about 48 hours. And the video itself, I remember there were some 4 a.m. nights, to 6 a.m. the following morning. It was crazy, but it was fun,” Portillo adds.

Creating Congo and his world has not been an easy task. But Timbaland and Portillo suggest there are huge advantages to launching music characters within the metaverse. “Congo has become a new source of creative freedom [for Timbaland],” states Portillo. “It gave him a way to antagonize even his own creative conservatism. After a while, people start telling you you’re the greatest and you start hearing different things in your head and sometimes it can clog what it is you’re trying to get out. And so that was the catalyst.”

Unlike FN Meka, Congo gives full creative license to the artist behind it—in this case, allowing Timbaland to express himself and experiment without judgment. “[It’s] a sanity scapegoat because it’s a transitioning of a new way of life for Timbaland,” the producer says in third person. “It gave me joy. It just gave me enlightenment that I was searching for for a minute. And that’s when I’m like, oh no, I got to finish this whole project. I know it’s going to take a lot of work, but I got to do it because it touches my soul.”

The creative freedom is enabling Timbaland and Portillo to imagine an even bigger world for Congo. They launched Timbo.Land, a Web3 world within the metaverse that invites fans to access and interact with new talent and like-minded communities. They plan to introduce the new space with a narrative orchestrated by Congo in the metaverse. In the real world, Congo steals Timbaland’s classic hard drive that holds unreleased music with artists such as Justin Timberlake, vanishes into Timbo.Land and challenges Timbaland to a musical duel. “Basically, he said, I’m old school. But it’s cool, he thinks he can be better than me. But look, you got to respect the OG,” Timbaland laughs. “You got to respect the G.O.A.T. I got some tricks in my bag that you don’t know yet.”

In addition to a face-off between Timbaland and Congo, Timbo.Land will also be unveiling new artists, including Congo’s band of backup artists called the “Petty Girls,” more music videos, NFT collectibles, a virtual world tour, and even an animated series. Both creators state that Timbo.Land will come to be a disruptive force in the music industry that can “upend how everyone engages, participates, and can contribute in a creative experience.”

Congo is a step in the right direction. In addition to allowing creative freedom, it honors the culture of hip-hop while venturing into new technology. Still, Timbaland understands that not everyone will accept the latest venture. He compares the pushback to the metaverse to early reservations about TikTok. “Nobody thought that you would be making funny videos and [that] girls [would be] doing little skits,” he adds. And I imagine that in Web3 it’s the same thing. That’s what I’m trying to tell people, it’s just another form of a business.”

Portillo also acknowledges the “uncertainty” of the metaverse, but suggests “there is a lot more to get out of it and a lot more fun to get caught in.” “This whole thing is really just an experiment, and the barrier to entry is lower. Everybody can come in and participate in the art [and] be an artist themselves,” he continues. “I think that is really the focus… storytelling. So I would invite people to take another look.”
Mikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13779546879068214828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1663587459147453551.post-65164094139601833422023-02-11T17:18:00.001+01:002023-02-11T17:18:19.210+01:00Timbaland Has A Cameo On ‘Rap Shit’ (Video) (2022)
Timbaland made an appearance on the HBO series Rap Sh!t, check out a preview below
