Ms. Jade Recalls Parting Ways With Timbaland & Missy Elliott
By Andres Tardio. Ms. Jade says she wanted to part ways with Timbaland and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott to "try to do it from the ground up." Ms. Jade, who worked with Timbaland and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott throughout the early 2000s, recently spoke about parting ways with the two producers to build upon her work independently during an interview with Billboard. "It was growing pains," Ms. Jade says of her parting ways with Timbaland and Missy.
"Me and Tim had built what we built. At that time, we weren't seeing eye to eye. I thought the album could have done more than it did. So, I wanted to try it my way. I wanted to try to do it from the ground up. And they thought, 'Oh well.' I went through a time where I was devastated after parting ways, not knowing what I'd do but then I told myself, 'I'm still Jade.' I felt like that was just a part of my story. They gave me the opportunity to change and see the world and I appreciate that."
It's been years since she parted ways with Timbaland and Missy, but now Ms. Jade says she is prepared to be her most honest with Beautiful Mess, her upcoming EP. "Right now, I'm working on EP right called Beautiful Mess," Jade says. "It's all original songs. I'm also singing on this project; I started singing...I found a few dope upcoming producers on YouTube for the EP.
I want it be more musical because I'll be performing the songs with a live band... Lyrically, I'm 100 percent honest this time. I talk about everything, from feeling like I'm not good enough at times to people once wanting to change me. I'm much more comfortable. I'm talking about family, friends and men… life." Jade was interviewed by Billboard as part of the publication's Ladies First: 31 Female Rappers Who Changed Hip-Hop article. *hiphopdx.com
