Listening to Timbaland and Terrence Howard gush about the role music will play in their upcoming Fox series “Empire,” it may need its own acting credit. “Music is the very soul of ‘Empire,’ says Howard, who plays record label head Lucious Lyon. “It’s all based upon music and its appreciation and its ability to translate and communicate to all people, to all things, and the talent in music that will be showcased.”

Overseeing all music for the series will be producer Timbaland, who says the “music is a major character.” “[The] music role in ‘Empire’ is ‘Empire.’ Without the music, you can’t identify to what the words are being said,” he told us. “It’s the major character. Music – and I hate to say this, and this is the right way to put it – music is ‘Empire’s’ God. You can’t see it, but you can feel it. That’s what the music is to ‘Empire.’”Empire” premieres Wednesday, Jan. 7 on FOX.
