Timbaland Presents Shock Value - Review
Just like how I've reviewed SV2, I'm going onto review SV1, some of you may disagree with my 5-star ratings here and/or hate the album arts for this, but ehh, they're the best I can offer, let's go:
01. Oh Timbaland
Here's an iconic Timbaland song which samples Nina Simone's song "Sinnerman", in which Tim basically raps about his life and career, plus sounds really good bumpin out of a car radio, it receives ✰✰✰✰✰
02. Give It To Me with Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake
Probably the most famous of all the Shock Value joints, especially since it featured 2 of the hottest artists at the time... This was also called "Crowd Control" at one point and was going to be featured on Lil Wayne's album "Tha Carter III" song receives ✰✰✰✰✰
03. Release with Justin Timberlake
You gotta admit that this is a slightly weird song, but it would've served well as a single which it contended to be, but alas it was only good enough to be a soundtrack to the EA Sports game "Madden NFL 08",
track includes Keri Hilson on backing vocals, as well as Kevin Rudolf on guitar, thus receives ✰✰✰
04. The Way I Are with Keri Hilson & D.O.E.
The ever-legendary song that helped put Tim back on the map, I remember nearly everyday in 2007 on TV there was this joint bumpin all the time, it was HOT! The video version includes an extra verse by Sebastian to 'pad out' the song, (speaking of which there is an unreleased "Director's Cut" version somewhere) deserves ✰✰✰✰✰✰
05. Bounce with Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott & Justin Timberlake
Taking pride of place on the Step Up 2 soundtrack, this sinister jam is undoubtedly the best track in terms of production on the entire album, with Timbaland entirely at his finest here, song receives ✰✰✰✰✰
06. Come And Get Me with 50 Cent & Tony Yayo
Bit of a dark track this one, really it's just Timbo showing off how he can have you "sorted out" and it's to be expected, the dude owns alligators dang it! However this song receives ✰✰✰
07. Kill Yourself with Attitude & Sebastian
Simply-stuctured song but yet it just doesn't feel like single material, so I'm glad it just remained an album-filler... Besides with these explicit lyrics there'd be so much censoring there'd barely be a song at all, therefore receives ✰✰✰
08. Boardmeeting with Magoo
A short-length co-production with Danja, this joint is awesome in every sense possible, afterall who can deny the partners in crime of Timbaland and Maganoo... (Tim if you're reading this, we want Mag on SV3) so receives ✰✰✰✰
09. Fantasy with M$ney
Personally this is my least favorite song from the album, not to mention it's not even produced by Timbaland or Danja... I can think of a better song that should've been in it's place (achoo Covers Blown achoo)
receieves ✰✰
10. Scream with Keri Hilson & Nicole Scherzinger
Now don't get me wrong here, this song is great but I just don't understand why they chose this as a single, It didn't do that well on the charts, but it's still cheeky to hear Tim 'bullshitting' at the end of the song, so it receives ✰✰✰
11. Miscommunication with Keri Hilson & Sebastian
Like "Release" this song was also a strong contender to be a single as well, and I think it would've charted better for Tim, yet we still get a 'rough' video for it, receives ✰✰✰✰✰
12. Bombay with Amar & Jim Beanz
This song is one of those best heard as an instrumental, but it's still good to see that Mr Mosley stays strong to his Indian influences, and the break down by Jim Beanz NEEDS to be in more songs these day... receives ✰✰✰
13. Throw It On Me with The Hives
The first ever official collaboration between Timbaland and a rock band, a Swedish one of that too, it was different at it's time, but it seems to have set the mainstream scene for Rock music to be used in many more collaborations with rnb and rap producers alike, song receives ✰✰✰✰
14. Time with She Wants Revenge
True to Timb's promise of having a variety of rock songs this, here's another great song, and if you ask me this would've been a better as a radio single, I mean the instrumental is mezmorising... i'm hypnotized to give it ✰✰✰✰
15. One And Only with Fall Out Boy
I'll let you in on a little story with this song, I was in a gym struggling on the weights, then this song came on, and suddenly I was pumped up full of energy and enthusiasm... my mate had to stop the music to stop me from breaking the equipment (damn you Hannon Lane).. if a song can do that anyone, it surely deserves ✰✰✰✰✰
16. Apologize with OneRepublic
Without a question, this is the most successful and celebrated song Timbaland has ever remixed for himself, it was a smart move, it introduced OneRepublic, put both on the mainstream map, and basically took over the world, and before the Official video, a demo video leaked online, thus earns ✰✰✰✰✰✰✰
17. 2 Man Show with Elton John
I was really interested to see this collaboration when I first heard of it, but now after it being out for 5 years, it just doesn't feel like it was meant to have lyrics, it should've just been Timmy beats mixed with Elton keyboard as a pure instrumental to 'close' the album, but it's still awesome to see a whole choir on the track, receives ✰✰✰
18. Hello with Keri Hilson & Attitude
A bonus to SV1 we receive a collaboration between Tim and 2 of his best songwriters, where they interpolate and sample "Smoke In The Air" and another old banger I can't remember now, but we can give it ✰✰✰✰
19. Come Around with M.I.A.
A UK bonus track on the CD this song was the only one of what was meant to be many when M.I.A. sought after Timbaland to produce her 2007 album "Kala" but this was inevitable due to visa isues, but "don't get it twisted" this song is pretty much still great to listen to on a lazy day, receives ✰✰✰
20. Laugh At Em (Remix) with Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z
This song was originally made for the Six2/Attitude/Timbaland album that just never came to be, so instead was reworked to exclude Six2 and Attitude but to include JT and Jay, plus re-christened as a "Give It To Me Remix", receives ✰✰✰✰
