THEY. Talk Working With Timbaland

R&B duo THEY. sat down with Billboard to tak about their future projects and how it’s been working with Timbaland.

You've collaborated with heavyweight producers such as Skrillex and Timbaland. What was it like to work with a pop producer versus a hip-hop producer?
There is always going to be the slight differences, but they each had their unique flavor. Obviously, Timbaland is a legend. Skrillex is a legend in the making. [They're gifted] in their respective fields. At the end of the day, music is music! We never hold back what a song means, regardless of who we are working with -- we are just focused on making the best song possible. That is why we can make a song like our new single, “Thrive.” That song has an OutKast [B.O.B.] “Bombs over Baghdad” feel. Then, there is a song like “Donte’s Creek,” which is a straight-up pop song. Our collaboration with Skrillex was “Working For It.” It was a really dope moment [careerwise]. Still, both producers are talented.

THEY. Talk Timbaland

|
The LA duo already have Timbaland on side, but with their new album, they're hoping to join the likes of Frank Ocean as R&B free-thinkers. "Recently in LA, you had a movement where a lot of like minded people just came together and grew. There are so many creative minds out there and the next 3-5 years in music will be so interesting and I'm excited to be part of it."

The two are not taking their rise for granted. They share a story about veteran producer Timbaland, who gave them advice while they worked together. “he came back and I pressed play for him, he was like 'This is tight man, you made uncle proud!' That was the biggest moment for me because I idolised him and now I have his approval."

THEY. Talk About Working With Timbaland On Hot 97

L.A. based artists Dante and Drew, together known as THEY., have built quite the buzz for themselves over the past year or so thanks to the majorly successful Nu Religion EP, which has earned them an opening spot on Bryson Tiller’s current "Trap Soul" tour. While we were lucky enough to chop it up with the duo ourselves at HNHH a couple weeks ago, Hot 97 decided to follow in suit and ask THEY. to sit down for an interview on Ebro In The Morning.

THEY. & Timbaland In 2015
Keeping it rather short at 8 minutes, Dante & Drew talked about opening up for Bryson Tiller, working with Timbaland, upcoming project, and not being the same as DJ Khaled’s “they”. Check it out.
