Jane Zhang Talks Working With Timbaland

Back in 2005, Jane Zhang was first recognized in an all-female, Chinese singing competition called Super Girl and shocked the world with her incredible voice. Week after week, 400 Million People tuned in to watch her sing in front of a massive audience. Twelve years later, Jane Zhang’s talent is still recognized in the music world. In 2016, she collaborated with Grammy Award-Winning Producer, Timbaland on the song “Dust My Shoulders Off,” and it was a Top 10 Single on iTunes. The song’s message clearly states you have to keep moving push forward despite what life throws at you.

Jane Zhang understands the music industry is very cut-throat and judgmental, but she’s determined to leave a ground-breaking impact in the industry. In “Dust My Shoulders Off,” she says, “The world keeps spinning, life goes on and on/ I won’t cry for long.” And with Timbaland co-signing, Jane Zhang will definitely be an artist to look out for in 2017. What’s the concept for the song “Dust My Shoulders Off”?
I come from a different culture, so I believe that there are many different ways to convey our feelings. But there must be some similarities in our lives because we are all humans dealing with real life problems. So I wanted the lyrics to really just reflect the real life. I hope when you listen to the song, it feels like a close friend who’s chatting with you about how your day is going.

Jane Zhang Talks Timbaland

Timbaland’s ear for international sounds hasn’t faded away. The producer has announced his latest collaboration with Chinese pop star Jane Zhang with favorable results. The singer dropped her American debut single “Dust My Shoulders Off” with a very artsy video to match. Produced by Timbo, Jane sings away her troubles over the hypnotic beat while referencing Jay Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder.” Just two weeks after releasing the track, it broke the Top 5 on the iTunes download chart, making her the first Chinese artist to do so.

In a press release, Jane shared her excitement on working with Timbaland to expand her sound. “I grew up loving the sound and feel of Western popular music, working with Timbaland allowed me to not only see how great music is produced but also the creative culture behind the scenes that enables the continuous production of great music,” she said. “It was an amazing learning experience.”

Timbaland also praised the singer. “Jane is a global artist, working with her [is] a great experience. Our collaboration allowed us to continue bridging the gap between Chinese and American pop culture.” The Grammy-winning producer is also labeled the executive producer on her upcoming album. Jane Zhang & Big Sean Record Track For Terminator Genisys

Chinese pop star Jane Zhang and American hip-hop artist Big Sean are collaborating on the original song Fighting Shadows for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ highly anticipated film Terminator Genisys, which opens on July 2. The partnership represents the first time that Zhang has recorded a song for an English-language film and marks Big Sean’s musical debut for a feature film. The song Fighting Shadows will be released digitally in Asia by Sony.

It is available for download at iTunes beginning June 30. “Contributing to the Terminator Genisys movie and inviting Big Sean to collaborate was a very special opportunity for me,” said Zhang. “I am really looking forward to the moment when people get to hear this song.” Big Sean said, “I have been a huge fan of Arnold (Schwarzenegger) and the Terminator movies since I was a kid, so it’s especially exciting to be a part of the new film,” said Big Sean. “Working with Jane has been an amazing experience and I can’t wait for audiences around the world to hear her song.” Zhang is a Chinese pop singer who came to prominence after her performance in the 2005 season of the Super Girl contest, a national all-female singing competition in China.

Introducing Timbaland’s New Artist Chinese ‘Jane Zhang’

Zhang Liangying (29), also known as Jane Zhang, is a Chinese Pop Singer who rose to prominence after her third-place performance in the 2005 season of the Super Girl contest, a national all-female singing competition in the People's Republic Of China. Growing up in Chengdu, China, Jane Zhang set her sights on becoming a singer. After her father passed away, the 15-year-old took a job singing at a local pub to help support her mother, and quickly developed her own local fan base.
In 2005, Jane was one of 120,000 hopefuls who auditioned for a new talent show, Mongolian Cow Sour Yogurt Super Girl. After singing Mariah Carey's "Hero," she was instantly chosen to compete for the title of the next Super Voice Girl. 400 million viewers tuned in to see who would take home the title, and although Jane didn't win the competition, she became the show's breakout star. With 15 Number One Hit Singles, Jane's been named China's Best Female Artist three years in a row.

Throughout the competition, she sang in English, Spanish and Cantonese in addition to Mandarin Chinese and is particularly known for her signature whistle register which earned her a nickname, "The Dolphin Princess".
