Jussie Smollett Talks New Music With Ne-Yo And Timbaland

Fans will be thrilled to hear from “Empire” star Jussie Smollett, who plays the Lyon’s middle son Jamal on the show. Smollett revealed new details about the upcoming Season 2 tunes, and it’s all music to our ears. In a recent interview with The Wrap, the “Empire” star opened up about working with Ne-Yo and Timbaland.

Smollett says he’s been hard at work recording the soundtrack with the show’s special musical guests. In addition to Ne-Yo and Timbaland, Smollett said he’s also been collaborating with Swizz Beatz on the new songs to hopefully get “Drip Drop” out of everyone’s head. Smollett also dished he’s taken a personal interest in the music and has written a few tracks as well. He reached out to “Jim Beanz about ideas for new songs.” According to Smollett, the Season 2 music will be finished in the next couple of weeks.

Empire Season 2 Will Feature Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo & Lenny Kravitz

Before season two of EMPIRE airs this fall, Lee Daniels and Danny Strong’s breakout drama hit-series has already locked in special guest from a few key standout people. Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz have all been tapped to guest star in the sophomore season, according to FOX Entertainment Group.

The trio is just the first of many cameos we can expect to see in the now 18-episode orderwhich will continue through the spring of next year. In related news, Ne-Yo, who’s been public in supporting the show has been given music producer duties alongside Timbaland to help create material for the actors-musicians, correlating with the shows plots.

Ne-Yo Helps Timbaland Write New Music For Empire Season 2 With 18 Episodes

"We just signed Ne-Yo who’s going to be writing all new music with Timbaland," announced Fox co-chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman to the thrill of anyone who thought mid-'00s R&B was underrated. Fox also announced that Empire will stick around in its time slot, Wednesday nights at 9 p.m.

As expected, Fox executives also said that the second season of Empire will consist of 18 Episodes split into two halves — one for fall, one for spring — with a crazy cliffhanger for the midseason hiatus in which a fourth Lyon son emerges. He'll be played by Zac Efron.

Enough is enough, no more waiting! Here it is, the Official Music Video for "Hands In The Air" directed by Marc Klassfeld:

The plot is simple: Timbaland is at a club by the bar drinking his new drink "Le Sutra" wearing hipster glasses when the DJ (played by his son Demetrius) starts jamming the song. A woman (Emily) then approaches Tim and he starts to sing in an attempt to flirt with her, and as the song hits the first chorus Emily then hits the dancefloor to perform (with the aid of other dancers) a sexy dance routine with chairs.
As Ne-Yo's verse kicks in, we see Ne-Yo in the private part of the club simply getting it on with his girl and the soon joins Timbaland by the bar. As the next chorus kicks in, Timbaland is apparently admiring everyone on the dancefloor now, including Lyrica Anderson, who then joins Timbaland & Demetrius in the DJ booth.
The video continues with Ne-Yo & Timbaland continuing to perform the song and eventually ends out with Timbaland spraying paint from a hose-pipe at everyone on the dancefloor.
The video concludes with Emily putting Ne-Yo's hat on Timbaland's head (sideways) and proceeds to leave. Various clips from the Step Up: Revolutions film are also utilized throughout the video.

The video appears to be taking place in a club and Tim is apparently wearing a T-Shirt promoting his Sutra.
I gotta say it's a slight improvement seeing Tim in those glasses, but please don't wear them too much!
Tim's son Demetrius however also cameo's in the vid as the DJ of the club. Now it's only a matter of time until the official video drops!
