Maganoo 2014 Telephone Interview

Here's a gem to help kickstart our year, a 2 hour long telephone interview with Magoo himself!! Now I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing yet, but I've heard enough from the start to realise that Mag wants to be known more as 'Maganoo' and not 'Magoo' to avoid confusion with the cartoon character 'Mr Magoo'.

Timbaland, Missy Elliott & Magoo LIVE at ShaggFest

The ShaggFest last night sounded like it was damn well worth everyone's $20, because their headline act Timbaland came out on stage with Missy, and long-time partner in crime MAGOO! Apparently Misdemeanor also jumped into the crowd during her performance. They all performed "Up Jumps Da Boogie" "Indian Flute" "Drop" "Supa Dupa Fly (The Rain)" together, don't believe me? Well here watch for yourself:

Throwback Sunday (or Monday) #7: Timbaland & Magoo - Deep In Your Memory

I know I wasn't posting throwbacks for some time but there was so many leaks and premieres lately (plenty of new tracks in general) that I simply thought nobody will be interested. Sorry if someone missed the series, I'll try to make it up. And yeah, I know I promised to post more Missy stuff but the album got delayed once again so I think I'll wait some more time. Instead of that, here's an awesome Tim & Magoo track, where Mags kicks some smart rhymes over a funky Timbo beat (hell yeah):



I love it, especially the stereo effect used here. But the best thing about this song are the lyrics. "F**ked Jyll on the hill". LOL

Oh, and I'll try to bring more life to this series. I'll try, really.

Timbaland Interview with Power 105.1 FM

As I mentioned in the previous post Timbaland is on the move with the promotions for his new album. He told a few days ago that he doesn't sleep, only catnaps haha.

To point on the main elements of this now legend interview:

1. Missy Elliott's album is DONE! It's just a matter of getting it released now and pushing the recently performed singles (9th Inning, Triple Threat, School Bell Ring).
2. Once Timbaland and Jay-Z get together in the studio, Tim wants to produce an entire album for Jay, despite the 2 not seeing each other as much anymore.
3. He mentions how he went from a nobody to a somebody, particularly because of his work with Justin Timberlake.
4. How he rebuilt himself from going to fat to super built, especially because he was trying re-brand himself for the Shock Value series.
5. Timbaland maintains that Magoo is still his best friend and that Melvin has managed his money properly by investing in real estate.
6. Timbaland confirms that Lil Wayne and Rick Ross are on SV3, he wants to record with Kanye West, and that this album will contain more rappers.
7. Timbo talks about who he is because of the team he has behind him such as Brian Byrd and Larry Live.
8. Lastly Timbaland said that he is working on trying to share an unreleased Aaliyah song for the fans, and that Drake could be involved, unconfirmed, and that he would do it for free since he believes that "money shouldn't be made from the dead".

So we are in for a hell of a ride this summer with all these projects coming through!

Shock Value III - "Album Sound"

I've been thinking about doing this post for sometime now, it is about the overall sound of SV3, just like how SV1 sounded epic, while SV2 sounded a little bubblegum pop.
Now based upon the songs that have been released here's what we've got:

WARPED: 

We know that song sounds way too epic and at first we thought it was going to go on SV3. However a little while after Tim released the snippet Magoo jumped on the track and added his verse and Timbo decided that Warped should go onto Block Party.

NAKED:

This song leaked at around the same time that Paper, Scissors, Rock leaked as well, probably by mistake or intention? There is still debate over whether or not this was meant for F.A.M.E. or SV3, so we'll have to wait until the album comes out to find out.

PASS AT ME:

Released as a buzz single near the end of 2011 to help Interscope promote their new book CULO and reportedly the first single off of SV3. There is however no indication so far if it is the lead single for the album or even if it will still appear on the final cut.

THIS LADY & LITTLE DRUMMER BOY:


Western Union Singing Telegram was launched in December 2011 and during the Christmas period and these two songs were made available to record your vocals in karaoke style to send off to friends/family as a personalized holiday greeting. However it is unlikely that Little Drummer Boy will make the album but yet there is the possibility that This Lady could make the final cut, despite the fact that Tim actually wanted to throw it away.

BREAK YA BACK:

With the recent release of Break Ya Back to the radio airwaves, DJ's, media websites, fans have all been going crazy over the track. Above posted is the newly released Dirty Version which contains an EXTRA verse by Timbaland.

So with all these sounds in mind we can so far say that Shock Value III is just plainly going to sound epic! Timbaland has kept his promise about bringing his beats back to where they belong. All in all the sound Shock Value III is going to be amazing!

Throwback Sunday #3: Timbaland & Magoo Feat. Larry Live - Can Ya Get With It

Hello ya'll! It's your boy Peter G. coming back after a long pause! I'm sorry for my long absence but my computer crashed and I've had no idea what to do with it. However, I managed to fix it myself - I've simply put my ram memory into another slot and it's working again. :|

I'm so dumb, I am really really dumb, for real (*Antoine Dodson face*). But don't worry folks, I'm back with a sack full of ideas, samples and theories, and I'll begin NOW!

Today's song is very very special. It's a rare gem by Timbaland and Magoo with companionship of their long time friend and collaborator Larry Live. For long time we had no idea who was the guy backing up Magoo on this song, since Larry never took part in other releases (at least I don't know any examples), but that changed after his leaking spree, when he gave us some cool demos by Tim's higschool group Surrounded By Idiots (with Pharrell, Mags, Larry and more) and even one from the Bassment Days (thanks Larry!). Now we officialy know who's the MC on this golden track. Here it is:





I just can't resist the magic of this track. I love the "oldschool" vibe Tim added to it, it reminds me of hip-hop's golden era and the "It Takes Two" record value. I definitely enjoy Mag's flows, especially his half-clever, half-silly, but always amazing lyrics (he sounds like a real rap godfather on this one, lol) and Larry's tennis metaphor (oh man, that one was grrrrrrrreat!). Some people assume that this joint is a remix of Usher's debut single "Can U Get Wit It" (also produced by Timbaland), but in my opinion it's just a rumour. For those who don't remember that joint, HERE IT IS.


Most Tim fans will propably think that "Can Ya Get With It" is a leaked track from a demo tape or someone's personal vault, but that's not true: it was released on the Priority Records promo CD containing some unique, hard to find tracks by various artists. But since the promo was FREE, I think it won't be a problem to post the track on hulkshare so everone can download it.

As you can see on the third pic, our today's throwback joint is the 17th track on the CD, labeled as "DeVante's Private Collection Feat. Timbaland & Magoo"... Well, that's a confusing name. And Larry wasn't even mentioned...

All the Bassment lovers should be pleased with track #10, Ginuwine's "I Want You". It's G's FIRST SINGLE EVER, released BEFORE "Ginuwine... Da Bachelor" in the Swing Mob Days. Of course produced by DeVante (and propably Darryl Pearson too), this song gained some heavy airplay back in the days, but suddenly it was forgotten when "Da Bachelor" came out and smashed the charts.

And for all my sample lovers, here's a little present:



The legandary joint by one of the fathers of funk music, George Clinton, which was also sampled by Dr. Dre for Snoop Dogg's debut single. Peep the baseline at 0:18 and throughout.
