Petey Pablo Talks Creating 'Raise Up'

Image Hosted by UploadHouse.com
No need to be from the Carolinas to shout the hook from Petey Pablo's "Raise Up" at the top of your lungs: the N.C. MC's 2001 debut single not only peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, but became an enduring hype anthem for those ready to take their shirts off and celebrate, regardless of location. The slapping Timbaland production -- which incorporates the sounds of the UNC Tar Heels' marching band -- provided the ideal sound bed for Pablo's gritty chant,

"This one's for North Carolina! Come on and raise up/ Take your shirt off, twist it 'round your hand/ Spin it like a helicopter!" With "Raise Up" making Billboard's Best Choruses of the 21st Century list, Raleigh's resident Mr. Freek-A-Leek hopped on the phone to discuss repping N.C. and how a (real) helicopter actually inspired the "Raise Up" hook.

Petey Pablo Talks Timbaland (October 6th)

345b453 43545
Freek-A-Leek” emcee talks writing “Snitch Bitch” and three more songs in 24 hours for “Empire.” Following months of speculation and anticipation, Fox recently dropped the trailer for season two of its ratings juggernaut Empire. A lot has changed since viewers were first introduced to the Lyon family in early January. Head patriarch Lucious discovered his diagnosis of ALS was something a lot less life threatening yet, was charged with the killing his former friend Bunky and finds himself currently incarcerated.

This a 180 from the series beginning with his ex-wife Cookie being released from prison. Getting over the closeted homosexual hump, middle son Jamal takes over Empire Enterprises and even manages to get a little Suge Knight-ish during a few episodes. Meanwhile, oldest son Andre is still coming to terms with his bipolar disorder. Empire Enterprises’ greatest threat comes when Hakeem forms an alliance with Lucious’ ex-fiance Annika who is possibly helping a rival record label. Wrapping everything together is Cookie’s power struggle to get the piece of the company that is deserved. As the second season of Empire is surely set possibly break more viewership records, DX is proud to present the next edition of “Empire State Of Mind.”

Petey Pablo Looks Back At ‘Raise Up’

Radio.com spoke to Petey Pablo about his two biggest hits, the Timbaland-produced "Raise Up". This is one of Pablo's first interviews since being released this summer from a prison stint on illegal weapons charges. He expects to have an album out next year.

"Raise Up" is pure love for North Carolina. Do you ever have to buy your own drinks when you're in your home state?
No, I don't. But it's a respect thing. People give me drinks all day long but at the end of the day, I have a job to do. A lot of times society has it where people with money don't have to pay for things. And people that don't have money, they don't get nothing. I like to keep it humble. Your drinks will always be.

What did it take to write the perfect North Carolina anthem?
It's like aggressive but positive. It takes…humble yourself and to think about what you're great for. And to not forget where you came from. Try to make sure that people know no matter where you come from, you tried to make something of yourself. You take all that, mix it up and that's what you got.

Did you have the idea for that song already or did you write it entirely to Timbaland's beat?
Tim gave me the beat, and it took me almost two weeks to write that record. For one, I'm a perfectionist. I second-guess myself; I'm my worst critic. That's one of the first tracks that Timbaland had ever gave me, and I wanted to prove myself worthy. I studied and studied. I think that's where a lot of artists go wrong, that they can take a track and just do something to it. When you marry a beat, it's just like having a wife, you have to be very attentive to get something out of it. You're attentive to your wife, she'll be the best wife ever. If you're attentive to the track, you know, the track will be your best work ever.

Petey Pablo's Next Stop After Prison? Timbaland's Studio

Image Hosted by UploadHouse.com
'I just want to say that I'm totally glad to be back in the race,' North Carolina MC says in a 'Talladega Nights'-inspired statement to MTV News. Petey Pablo was only released from prison on March 13, but the "Freek-A-Leek" rapper already has plans to take over the rap game. With the drama stemming from his 2010 gun charge behind him — the North Carolina MC served time on a 35-month sentence in federal prison.

Petey
is so pumped to win that he's taking cues from Will Ferrell's Ricky Bobby, the fictional race car driver who stops at nothing to get to the #1 spot. "I just want to say that I'm totally glad to be back in the race and behind the wheel of a car that has been fine-tuned for the greatest performance," Pablo (born Moses Barrett) said in a press release issued to MTV News after his release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey this morning. Back in 2001, Pablo scored a breakout hit with the Timbaland-produced "Raise Up," and now he plans to go back into the studio with his old friend ... for some "Talladega Nights"-themed work.

"I'm now headed to the work shop,"
Pablo continued in the statement, "to begin what will be noted as my best work ever with one of the greatest producers of all time. My Brother, my friend, my partner for life: mega producer Timbaland, the King!" Petey was arrested on September 11, 2010, when security at Raleigh-Durham International Airport found a Smith & Wesson 639 in his carry-on luggage. Though the rapper claimed he didn't know the gun was in his bag, he was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and attempting to take a gun onto an aircraft.

He pleaded guilty to the stolen firearm charge in federal court and was sentenced in September 2011 to 35 months; the other two charges were dropped. Before he made it as a rapper, Pablo served six years of a 14-year sentence for armed robbery. He got beyond his past with the release of his spirited North Carolina dedication song, "Raise Up," which also featured a dance where fans took off their shirts and spun them in the air like helicopter blades. Three years later, Petey's platinum-selling "Freek-A-Leek" became his highest-charting solo single, hitting #7 on Billboard's Hot 100. Later that year, he hit #1 as a guest on Ciara's "Goodies" single. *mtv.com

Timbaland Ft. Sebastian & Brasco - "Red Bone (Remix)"

Looks as if Brasco is suffering from the "Red Bone" effect so hopped on the track to do his remix breakdown thang to it. Pretty much it's the same song except with the Petey Pablo verse axed with BK doing his freestyle remix to the track.
Go on and check out the joint:

I am feeling this, are you?

Timbaland Ft. Petey Pablo & Sebastian - "Red Bone"

"Got a Red Bone she look Tropic!"

AT LONG LAST!! This song really goes hard, especially the way Sebastian goes down on his verse, why don't they just release both Tim's and Seb's albums... I mean this is the quality music we are really missing!!
Also it's great to see Petey back in the building, same goes for the Lil Wayne sampling...
(Ahh look at me talking to much again, just get to the point):

One thing now bugs me, will this joint appear on Tim's album or will we just have to settle for it as this  "Festive Releases" only? Meh, time will tell I guess, but for now THIS IS BANGIN!
S/O to Edwin for keepin the site up and running while I've been occupied recently!

Sebastian Ft. Timbaland & NiRe AllDai - "Wobbley Remix" MUSIC VIDEO

OH YEAH!! Took them long enough, but finally here we go, the "Wobbley Remix" Music video directed by Paul Coy Allen with cameos by Petey Pablo, Fat Joe, Wizz Dumb, J'Royal Price, Natalie Nunn, and many more! (You can check them out in the bottom vid clip).

And now to give us a little more background here is a little behind the scenes look at the making of the remix:

And just so all y'all know or forgot Sebastian paid for this video and original all on his own and it reached stretched his pocket money at the time, so I think it's a very good video considering all the effort Sebby put into it.

Sebastian Ft. Petey Pablo & Bubba Sparxxx - "Hell To Da Naw" THROWACK

Aw Hell To Da Naw... Once again I missed the first of the month, so here is the throwback I'm doing this month, since September 1st is Sebastian's birthday, I decdided I'll go with him, So here's to you sappy!!

(And a word on "Triple Threat & 9th Inning" they're being released TOMORROW, Sept. 3rd)

SeQuence Ft. Petey Pablo - "Time"

I was waiting for a chance to post something on the producer in Tim's camp, namely SeQuence Clark, and now we have the opportunity! Here he is in a short-length song entitled "Time" which features Petey Pablo.
Wanna listen?

I have to admit that I have looked at his profile on HNHH Songs, and I have missed numerous other opportunities, but I'm making up for it now, (at least I hope so).
