Aaliyah was professionally in peak position when she hit the VMAs at New York’s Radio City Music Hall back in 2000. The Pop/R&B star had not only made the leap into film with a role in “Romeo Must Die,” but her contribution to the action flick’s soundtrack was just as successful. The 21-year-old’s Timbaland-produced “Try Again,” took home two Moonmen that year, for Best Female Video and Best Video For A Film. But a fatal plane crash would make September 7, 2000, her last MTV Video Music Awards.
On Sunday night, the 2014 VMAs rolled out at The Forum in Inglewood, California, and while the girls seemed to own the night — from Vanguard Award winner Beyonce to power vocalist Ariana Grande — we couldn’t help but miss a certain “babygirl.”The subject of an upcoming Lifetime biopic, Aaliyah died 13 Years Ago on (August 25). It’s one thing to create music that’s influenced by artists you admire, but what if you could actually team up with those artists to create a new song? That’s in effect what’s happening with music startup Open Labs‘ latest update to its StageLight software. The company recently added a soundboard — sounds and drum machine beats taken directly from a sound library — that was created by hip-hop superstar and investor Timbaland.
So if you want to create your own soundtracks, using Timbaland’s sounds and beats, you can do it with StageLight for about $30. “We’ve been a little bit overwhelmed by how interested people are in this,” Open Labs founder Cliff Mountain said in an interview with VentureBeat. “Tim has had a phenomenal career… It’s wonderful to actually get someone who has a lot of history and wonderful sounds over the last few decades, and who’s still relevant and in the middle of [the popular music scene] today.”
StageLight is like a more user-friendly, accessible version of Pro Tools, the audio-editing software used by a large portion of the music industry. StageLight’s main selling point is that you shouldn’t be limited to the kind of music you create just because you don’t have years upon years of experience learning how to edit it. The same goes (to an extent) for honing musical ability, too. The StageLight 1.3 software includes tools like “Key Lock,” which helps artists maintain the key of their composition quickly and easily.
To grab the soundboard created by Timbaland, you will need to buy the StageLight – Timbaland Edition package. The software, which contains all the tools needed to produce music from all genres, costs $30 for new users and is available on both Windows desktop and tablets. However, anyone who already own StageLight can download the Timbaland edition for just $20. Timbaland’s Stage Light Commercial has a new Timbaland Instrumental on it, which is made especially for that Commercial. Introducing Timbaland’s New Artist Chinese ‘Jane Zhang’
Zhang Liangying (29), also known as Jane Zhang, is a Chinese Pop Singer who rose to prominence after her third-place performance in the 2005 season of the Super Girl contest, a national all-female singing competition in the People's Republic Of China. Growing up in Chengdu, China, Jane Zhang set her sights on becoming a singer. After her father passed away, the 15-year-old took a job singing at a local pub to help support her mother, and quickly developed her own local fan base.
In 2005, Jane was one of 120,000 hopefuls who auditioned for a new talent show, Mongolian Cow Sour Yogurt Super Girl. After singing Mariah Carey's "Hero," she was instantly chosen to compete for the title of the next Super Voice Girl. 400 million viewers tuned in to see who would take home the title, and although Jane didn't win the competition, she became the show's breakout star. With 15 Number One Hit Singles, Jane's been named China's Best Female Artist three years in a row.
Throughout the competition, she sang in English, Spanish and Cantonese in addition to Mandarin Chinese and is particularly known for her signature whistle register which earned her a nickname, "The Dolphin Princess". Lifetime Cast Roles Of Missy Elliott & Timbaland For Aaliyah Biopic
You can't have a movie about Aaliyah without her musical mentors. A network representative told TheWrap that Lifetime's Aaliyah Biopic has cast Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith as producer-rappers Missy Elliott and Timbaland, respectively. Dolabaille is a newcomer to Hollywood. She's a Canadian actress, singer and dancer. Alexandra Shipp will star as Aaliyah in the Lifetime Original Movie ‘Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B.’ She replaced Zendaya Coleman as the lead.
Izaak Smith, on the other hand, was a contender on “So You Think You Can Dance Canada.” He has appeared in “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and “Mirror Mirror” as a dancer. He also played Cal Rice on popular Canadian series, “Tower Prep,” and Danny on digital series “Totally Amp'd.” In addition to Dolabaille and Smith, the production has cast Rachael Crawford and Sterling Jarvis as Aaliyah's parents Diane and Michael Haughton; Lyriq Bent as her uncle and president of her label, Barry Hankerson; Anthony Grant as Damon Dash; and A.J. Saudin and Jesse Sukunda will play the older and younger version of Aaliyah's brother Rashad, respectively.
The working title for the television movie is “Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B” and is based on the bestselling book “Aaliyah: More Than A Woman” by former Time music editor Christopher Farley. The film will be produced by Aaliyah Productions, Inc., with Wendy Williams, Howard Braunstein (“The Informant!”) and Debra Martin Chase (“Sparkle”) executive producing. Bradley Walsh (“Turn The Beat Around”) is directing, working from a script by Michael Elliot (“Brown Sugar”). It is filming this Summer for a Fall premiere.
The proposed television movie about the singer, who died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22, had been mired in controversy with Aaliyah fans and her family expressing disapproval of the project. There was even a fan petition seeking to shut the production down. Fans believed that Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman wasn't the right choice to play Aaliyah. She would later leave the project. 50 Cent sat down with the Wall Street Journal this past week, where he discussed the success of his SMS Audio line. First, he explains how high-profile investors Timbaland and Carmelo Anthony become involved, and why those partnerships were important. Timbaland x MTV Interview, Talks His New Girl Regime & Confirms Rachel Assil As His New Artist
Timbaland, aka Timothy Zachery Mosley, has been responsible for the success of more people than most. From Missy Elliot’s Supa Dupa Fly to Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, the super producer’s career spans 25 years, and he’s nowhere near finished yet. Kicking off his “new regime” of Mosley Music talent by featuring on Pepsi’s Beats Of The Beautiful Game album with his signing Rachel Assil and track Whoever We Are, MTV caught up with Tim to find out more about his next generation of artists and some old – and much missed – friends.
MTV UK: How did you end up featuring on Pepsi’s Beats Of The Beautiful Game album?
Timbaland: Well I sat down with Pepsi and they had a great vision, I saw the vision, and it was a good way to get my music out across the world. I felt like I had a great song with my new artist Rachel Assil that fit perfectly.
MTV UK: Tell us a bit about the song, Whoever We Are…
Tim: I heard the song when Rachel did it, she played it on the piano and I just thought, ‘Wow, this fits the campaign.’ I sent it to Pepsi and they loved it.
MTV UK: There are some other great artists on the Beats Of The Beautiful Game album, like Janelle Monae and Rita Ora; is there anyone on there you’d love to work with?
Tim: Not really. I just want to work with my own people that are with me. I don’t want to work with nobody that’s not a part of Mosley Music. Not right now. I’m building a new regime.
MTV UK: Can you tell us more about your new regime?
Tim: You’ll see, in 2015, I’ve got mostly girls that are signed to me. The first two are very special. I probably haven’t seen this kind of special since Lady Gaga. Or Rihanna. They’re the only two in the last ten or 12 years who are special. It’s not about being good or great, it’s about being special.
MTV UK: It must be a really exciting time for you…

Timbaland: Missy Elliott’s New Album Is a ‘Game Changer’
It’s been nearly a decade since Missy Elliott released her last album, but her longtime collaborator Timbaland promises it will be worth the wait. “It’s coming,” the super-producer told Rolling Stone of the follow-up to 2005's The Cookbook. “It’s on her. She got the first single, it’s just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game changer right there.”
While no release date has been set, he said to expect big things. “It’s something you ain’t never heard Missy do. It sounds today, but the future.” In an interview with Yahoo!’s “The Yo Show,” earlier this year, Missy explained the reason for the delay. “When I create something, it’s gotta be special and it can’t just be to throw something out there because I feel like I’m Missy,” said the “Work It” rapper.
“I gotta feel like what I’m giving the fans is 100 percent and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records.” In September 2012, Missy released two Timbaland-produced songs, “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat,” off her tentatively-titled album Block Party. She has also appeared on singles for Little Mix (“How Ya Doin’?”), Fantasia (“Without Me”), and most recently, Faith Evans (“I Deserve It”). Thanks to ZakH.

Timbaland x RollingStone.Com Interview, Talks New Solo Album 'Opera Noir'
Legendary producer picks his favorite new artists and explains why you might soon hear less of him. At the turn of the decade, it seemed as though Timbaland — the producer behind many of the biggest beats of the previous 15 years — had finally quieted down. Now, at age 42, he's back on top: In the past year and a half, he has co-produced nearly all of Justin Timberlake's two volume The 20/20 Experience, most of Jay Z's Magna Carta... Holy Grail and Beyoncé highlights like "Drunk In Love" and "Partition."
On the phone to promote "Whoever We Are," his contribution to the Pepsi Beats Of The Beautiful Game World Cup LP, he spoke with Rolling Stone about the song, the young rappers he's been mentoring and why he thinks his next (and possibly final) solo album is his most innovative project ever.
Can you tell me about the birth of "Whoever We Are"?
I had this song from Rachel Assil, my new artist, and when she played me the song it was like, "Wow, this kind of fit what Pepsi people were talking about." We try to say we're planning and all this stuff, but when it comes to music you can never look back and be like, "How did this happen?" If you talk about it too much, it ain't going to happen. That's the point. So, we didn't do to much talking. It just happened.
When you're developing an artist like Rachel, what does that mean? What kind of guidance are you giving them?
I give them encouragement and I give them that talk. You have to be in there when I'm doing the talk. The talk is putting the battery pack in their back, like, "You could be a great, you could be just as great as me." Thanks to thepestilence.
